Turbopuffer is an Ottawa-based vector search company founded in 2023 by former Shopify infrastructure engineers Simon Eskildsen and Justin Li. Its serverless search engine is built directly on object storage, which lets it serve vector and full-text search over very large datasets at a fraction of the cost of memory- or disk-replica-based vector databases.
The company reports managing trillions of vectors and tens of petabytes of data, with customers including Anthropic, Notion, and Cursor. Turbopuffer has deliberately raised little capital — early backing from Lachy Groom followed by a seed round joined by Thrive Capital in late 2025 — while growing revenue roughly tenfold in 2025.
